A corpus of drawings attributable to the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, and preserved in the Diocesan archive of Mdina, allows us to better understand the reconstruction of the Cathedral of Malta after the earthquake of 1693, which damaged the medieval building. This had already been interested, a few years earlier, bu some works that had affected the presbytery area. The survey and project drawings, partly published but never studied in depth, offer valuable information on the medieval church and on the transformation process, on the relationship between the pre-existing buildings and the new projects. Indagini archeologiche nella Chiesa di San Francesco d’Assisi a Butera

The contribution illustrates the results of the archaeological investigations carried out on the occasion of the reconstruction of the internal floor of the Church of San Francesco d'Assisi in Butera. The excavation brought to light three phases of restructuring of the monument, between the fourteenth and seventeenth centuries, legible, on the outside, in the wall stratigraphy of the western side of the nave.

ABSTRACTCarlo Broschi, better known as Farinelli, arrived in Madrid on 7 August 1737. King Philip V and his wife Elisabeth Farnese were deeply impressed by his vocal qualities and invited him to remain in their service, on extremely rewarding terms. Although few sources concerning his first months in Spain are available, a newly discovered libretto, L'ombra di Luigi XIV il Grande, sheds light on his position at the Spanish court and his response to the privileged situation he enjoyed. The work is a short solo cantata commissioned by Farinelli and offered to Philip V for his name day in 1738. Il presente lavoro di ricerca mira ad approfondire e arricchire, mediante nuove acquisizioni, lo studio in merito alle opere pittoriche di committenza gesuitica custodite presso le fondazioni palermitane dell’Ordine: chiesa del Gesù a Casa Professa, Collegio Massimo dei Gesuiti, chiesa di San Stanislao Kostka e chiesa di San Francesco Saverio. A queste si aggiungono i dipinti di committenza della Compagnia trasferiti presso altre sedi. Scavare, dal latino excavare (ex-cavare), possiede etimologicamente il significato di “rendere cavo” mediante l’azione del subtrahĕre (sottrarre). Tuttavia il significato del termine all’interno della sua necessaria disambiguazione non può essere inteso limitatamente alla luce dell’etimologia latina. Si dirà allora che la tecnica dello scavo è opposta e complementare alla tecnica dell’accumulazione. Lucretius has often been regarded as one of the fathers of modern science, and also in recent years several studies have explored his influence far beyond a merely literary perspective. In this paper I analyse specifically the importance of the poet's 'eclectic' attitude in physiology from the point of view of his 'Fortleben' in early modern thought. Si mettono a sistema tre brevi testi di tipo etnogeografico con cui si sono cimentati Silone, Jovine e Borgese negli anni Trenta-Quaranta del Novecento, concettualizzando e testualizzando i caratteri più peculiari della propria regione di appartenenza. Prenderò in esame la prefazione che Borgese scrisse per Sicilia (Touring Club Italiano, 1933) e le due prefazioni che Silone e Jovine scrissero per Abruzzo e Molise, (Touring Club Italiano, 1948). After studying Emerico Amari’s manuscripts, kept in the Biblioteca Comunale di Palermo, in this paper the author observes the contribution of Sicilian liberalism to the economic debate carried out in the years prior to the Revolution of ‘48. The unpublished papers enhance our knowledge and describe more clearly the reformist program that liberal Palermitans, among which Francesco Ferrara is numbered, stated and sustained for about ten years in the main administrative institutions of the island. Particular attention is paid to the most debated administrative and economic issues of that period: public works and conditions of Sicilian industry.
